Join diaspora groups to network and grow as you study

At the Tukole International and Diaspora Student Service Office (TISSO), we are committed to supporting international students who pursue education abroad, providing them with the resources, guidance, and community needed to excel both academically and personally.

Studying abroad is an exciting journey filled with endless opportunities for learning, growth, and cultural exchange. For many Ugandan students, the chance to study internationally is a dream come true, opening doors to academic advancement and future career success. However, the path can also be filled with challenges—navigating a foreign education system, adjusting to new cultural norms, and managing the pressures of student life far from home.

Our Mission

TIDSSO exists to empower and support East African students abroad by offering tailored services that address their unique needs. Whether it’s helping students acclimate to a new academic environment, providing guidance on immigration processes, or building connections within the diaspora community, we aim to make the transition to student life abroad smoother and more fulfilling.

The Challenges of Studying Abroad

  1. Cultural Adjustment: Moving to a new country often means navigating cultural differences, which can lead to feelings of isolation and culture shock. Adapting to new social norms, communication styles, and even food can be overwhelming.

  2. Academic Differences: Academic systems vary from country to country, and international students may find themselves facing different expectations, teaching methods, or grading systems that require a significant adjustment.

  3. Financial Pressure: Balancing tuition fees, living expenses, and personal finances can be a challenge for many international students. Managing these financial responsibilities while keeping up with academics can be stressful.

  4. Immigration and Legal Issues: Understanding the intricacies of student visas, work permits, and immigration laws can be a daunting task. Staying informed and compliant with local laws is critical to maintaining one’s legal status as an international student.

  5. Social Integration: Without family and friends nearby, it can be difficult to build a social network in a foreign country. Many students struggle to find a sense of community or to meet people who share similar experiences.
